The Truth About Depression and Big Pharma

Americans are more depressed than ever, with about 15% of all age groups on some sort of anti-depressant medication. Since Prozac debuted in 1988, the number of Americans on these medications has been steadily increasing.

The problem is this: More and more people’s depression is no longer controlled on one medication. Have you seen commercials for “additional” anti-depressants? I’m sure most of you have.

Now have you heard about folic acid? Probably only in the context of pregnant and nursing women.

I bet you haven’t heard that folic acid is proven to drastically augment the anti-depressive effects of medications when they aren’t working as well anymore. Why have you probably not heard of it? It is a basic vitamin and big pharma can’t make money on it.

When taken in the form of L-methylfolate, folic acid augments the effectiveness of your anti-depressant, without all of the side effects of another anti-depressant.

Second, anti-depressants are growing, and so are the wallets of big pharmaceutical companies.

If you don’t feel your medication is working as well anymore, or you have had to switch anti-depressants, you may wonder why your doctor hasn’t mentioned folic acid. The sad truth is that many doctors don’t know about it because pharmaceutical companies don’t “push” it. But the evidence is clear that adding folate in the form of L-methylfolate can drastically improve your symptoms!

Deplin is the brand name for folic acid and is prescribed since it is different than over the counter folic acid in the vitamin aisle. It is in the form of L-methylfolate, which is metabolized easily by our GI tract. Deplin is considered a “medical food,” which means a specially formulated product that is in a form different than found in food.

Check out the story here.

I don’t work for Deplin and I certainly get no financial benefit from writing this. I am just sick and tired of the way our healthcare is dominated by pharmaceutical lobbyists and how we are consistently let down by governmental agencies.

Our government does not fund research on a simple vitamin because no one stands to make money. Yet this vitamin can help millions of Americans and save them money and side effects

We have a major problem in our country and it is that pharmaceutical companies are running our healthcare and we don’t even know it.

Somewhere along the line, we got off track. I can’t solve this problem all on my own, but I am happy to spread the information to give each of you the tools to help yourselves. It’s time for us to question instead of accepting without question.
