HOW JUST 5 DAYS OF PROCESSED FOODS CAN CHANGE YOUR METABOLISM

A very interesting study just published in the journal Obesity suggests that our body’s normal, healthy response to foods we eat actually changes after just 5 days of eating an all-processed, high in saturated fat diet.

Health young men were given the same amount of calories as a control group. But the studied group ate all processed foods that were higher in saturated fat than an all-Mcdonalds diet would be!

Think nothing but mac-n-cheese, buttery foods and microwaveable meals for 5 days straight! Researchers took muscle biopies of the groups to compare as well as tested insulin sensitivity and genes in metabolic rate.

Amazingly, just 5 days of this diet altered metabolism greatly. After a meal there is a healthy response our body has – glucose is metabolized and oxidative stress is balanced out.

These responses weren’t just blunted they were “obliterated.” The only finding that wasn’t drastic was that insulin sensitivity was not affected – most likely you’d need longer than 5 days of this diet to affect that hormone.

A study like this can’t even be carried out for longer because it would be unethical! It shows how our bodies work like machines and when we feed pure junk to those machines they adapt in a way that doesn’t serve us at all..
