FIT AT 50 = LOWER CANCER RISK!

Small changes in a man’s fitness level in midlife can have a significant impact on whether or not he gets diagnosed with lung and colon cancer 10-15 years later.

What’s more, a man’s fitness level in midlife translates to him being less likely to die from a cancer he is treated for decades later!

Fitness at 50 has previously been linked to decreased risk of heart related death. But this shows that our fitness at 50 also has real effects on our cancer risk years down the line!

My favorite part about this study is that even small increments in fitness had an impact. Example: speeding up the time to run a mile from 12 minutes to 11.5 minutes had a measure able impact on cancer risk!

The study followed over 14,000 men and was just published in the medical journal JAMA Oncology. Check it out!
